This silent, black & white film is one of a series of Official Films newsreels that was sold for the home market. This issue covers the News Thrills Of 1943, with a look at the Casablanca summit between Roosevelt and Churchill, FDR's visit with President Vargas of Brazil, the raid on Timor, the Battle of Guadalcanal and the Battle of Stalingrad. Opening titles: News Thrills Of 1943 (:08-:16). Title: Casablanca, Morocco is the place where . and Churchill Meet. At the well guarded Hotel Anfa, President Roosevelt and Winston Churchill meet. The two men share a conversation. France's General Giraud and Gen. Charles de Gaulle shake hands to symbolize a united France. Roosevelt drives by in a jeep. U.S. soldiers stand nearby. The jeep procession passes by American military vehicles including Sherman tanks (:17-1:58). American troops march by followed by tanks. Liberia is the next stop. FDR reviews the Liberian troops. Black troops march. FDR confers with President Vargas of Brazil while crossing the Atlantic in a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber (1:59-3:26). . and Churchill sit next to one another in Casablanca, Morocco. Title: Lost Aussies Raid Japanese. Map shows Island of Timor. A group of Aussies hid for 59 days. Plane in the sky. Aussies built a radio to contact help. Men use the radio. Map shows call coming from Timor but Australia thought it old be a ruse by the Japanese. Men confer. A hand writes a note. A man with headphones writes down information. Supplies make their way to the men (3:27-5:48). Australians and friendly Natives attack the Japanese in a village. Guns are fired at the Japanese. Natives rush the village. Troops pour in, village is set ablaze. Smoke plumes in the distance. Men shake hands, smile, eat, stand on patrol (5:49-7:16). Title: Guadalcanal, U.S. Marines fight at close quarters against the Japanese. Admiral Fitch (.) and General Geiger of the U.S. Marines inspect installations. U.S. fires off artillery at the enemy. Artillery is fired again and again (7:17-8:29). Title: Stalingrad, Russians Victorious. Stalingrad was a desperate and bloody battle. Smoke is everywhere as troops move. Russians fire at the enemy. Anti-aircraft gun fired into the sky. Commander cheers. German plane crashes into the ground, the wreckage of the plane is surveyed. Battle in Stalingrad streets is bloody and deadly. Artillery fires. Russian sharpshooters shoot down Nazis. Gunfire erupts, troops move. Soldiers under fire (8:30-11:20). Russian troops run in pursuit of the enemy. Smoke on the street. Sharpshooter / sniper lies in wait (10:40). A Russian civilian carries his cello to safety. Refugees of Russia (11:21-12:03). End credits (12:04-12:08).
