On our recent brine pool expedition in the Gulf of Mexico, our team captured this unusual encounter when a fish continually submerged itself into a brine pool. Unclear if it was feeding or ill, brine pool water is too salty for any organisms other than bacteria to survive, producing toxic shock in most animals that become submerged. E/V Nautilus is exploring the ocean studying biology, geology, archeology, and more. Watch for live video from the ocean floor. For live dive updates follow along on social media at and on Twitter.
