When it came time to record a follow up to the hit LP “Main Course“ the Bee Gees found that the key to their new success, producer Arif Mardin who produced “Jive Talkin'“ was no longer available to them. RSO Records had a distribution deal with Atlantic Records of which Mardin was a house producer. When that deal ended, RSO switched labels to Polydor which left the Bee Gees with out Mardin who could not work with artists on other labels. The panicked brothers approached super producer Richard Perry, but found they were at cross purposes with him and abandoned the project. They then realized that the best course of action would be to recreate the atmosphere of “Main Course“, so they went back and recruited sound engineers Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson who helped to create the new sound for that album.
