The 1970 Trans-Am Championship was the fifth series in SCCA's sports car racing championship, founded in 1966 by President John Bishop. The championship was contested over eleven rounds with separate races at each round for Under 2 Liter and Over 2 Liter cars. The series was best known for competition among American V8 coupes such as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Plymouth Barracuda, Mercury Cougar, AMC Javelin, Pontiac Firebird, and Dodge Challenger, driven by some of the most famous names in auto racing, like Mark Donohue, Parnelli Jones, Dan Gurney, Sam Posey, and Bob Tullius. Five wins made Parnelli Jones Trans-Am's 1970 champion, with Ford winning its first title in two years.
