Edgbaston, Birmingham. Mr George Cohen presents his collection of jade and ivory. M/S of Mr Cohen looking at a reference book of identification markings. Small ornaments are laid out on a table. Various shots of Netsukes - ornamental pieces which are worn on a sash around the waist. C/U of his wife Betty holding one of the Netsukes and admiring it. C/U of various small intricately carved pieces, some of which represent subjects from Japanese mythology. Extreme C/U of a small shell held between Betty's fingers, as she turns the shell towards the camera we see a tiny carving inside the shell. M/S of Mr Cohen and Betty sitting on a couch admiring various pieces in the collection. Narrator tells the viewer some of the history of jade, recounting a Chinese proverb and Mexican superstition.
