Rini, a member of the Indonesian Semunying community, talks about the consequences of deforestation near her village. In Indonesia, palm oil producers have destroyed a million trees in recent years, and plantations have sprung up in their place. They’re treated with pesticides that poison land and rivers. To grow corn, vegetables and rice, people must travel tens of kilometres from home to where there are still forests.
