In this lecture, we continue an examination of plant development and maintenance by looking at the role of transpiration in plant homeostasis, and by discussing the ways plants control this process. The rest of the lecture is devoted to a thorough treatment of oriented growth, or tropism, which plays a similar role in plant homeostasis as movement does in animal homeostasis. We conclude by noting that not all plant movement is slow; some plants move quickly in ways more characteristic of animals.
