A layer of smog enveloped the Indian capital with air quality reaching ‘very unhealthy’ levels as farmers continued to burn fields in nearby states, exacerbating the city’s air pollution. Every year, air quality in New Delhi is worsened by burning of crop residue in neighbouring states including Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. New Delhi was rated the world's most polluted capital last year by Swiss group IQAir.
