SPLASH is a fantasy rom com from 1984 starring Tom Hanks and Darryl Hannah. The plot centers around a mermaid who falls in love with a human man. He does not know she is a mermaid. He just thinks she’s a hot weirdo. Splash is also on the list of (supposed) upcoming Hollywood reboots. But not just any reboot – a GENDER-SWAPPED reboot starring Channing Tatum as the mermaid. And I have thoughts. So let’s walk through the plot of the original Splash, and talk about what a Channing Tatum reboot might look like. By the way, they first announced this reboot in 2016. I assumed it had gone belly up in the ensuing years, but no. In February 2023, they announced that the script has a writer, Sarah Rothschild. *** P.S. Please know that I really did enjoy The Lost City with Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock. Not trying to hate on that movie at all – it was a good time. Daniel Radcliffe was a delight.
