German authorities cut off the family’s social benefits and planned to take away their two daughters when they learned that they wanted to move to Russia. Maria Butina met with the Adler family, foreigners who received a visa under Putin’s decree on voluntary resettlement on ideological grounds. Yvonne, the mother of two girls, said that some parents in Germany have already had their children taken away because of their pro-Russian views: “The authorities in Germany are trying to replace the family, to take away all our rights. They come to schools, to kindergartens. If someone says something that the authorities don’t like, their children are taken away.“ According to Yvonne, she still does not believe that her family is safe. For four years they had to move from one country to another, now they have settled in Nizhny Novgorod.
