Директор фонда «Дорога жизни» Анна Котельникова вместе с московскими врачами ездит по региональным интернатам. В штате детдомов часто нет квалифицированных медицинских специалистов. И в учреждении для неизлечимо больных оказываются те, у кого есть шанс на счастливое и здоровое детство. Столичные доктора отправляют их на обследование или операцию в Москву, если помочь на месте ребёнку нельзя. В интернате для умственно отсталых в Ростовской области они встретили 17-летнего Сашу, который почти не слышит, и 9-летнюю Юлю с заболеванием ноги.
