Part of a bridge in Dresden collapsed into a river early on Wednesday, 11 September, authorities said. A pedestrian and cycle track and tram tracks on the Carola bridge have been affected, local government confirmed. Two district heating pipes were damaged, causing the hot water supply to completely stop in the eastern German city. “There is an acute danger to life on and under the bridge. For this reason, the entire area has been cordoned off,” Michael Klahre, spokesperson for the Dresden fire department, said. No injuries were reported, officials added.
