Part 1 of 4. Flight from Wick (EGPC) to Reykjavik (BIRK). 660 nautical miles crossing the North Atlantic Ocean in a Diamond DA42 VI. Route Departs Wick, passes West of the Orkney Islands, into the North Atlantic Airspace, passing to the West of the Faroe Islands and finally to Iceland. There was a low pressure system to the south causing some 60kt crosswind component in the cruise. A few small diversions around some cumulonimbus clouds which would have contained turbulence and icing conditions. Flight took 4 hours in total burning 46 gallons of Jet A1. 2020 DA42, Registration N42LR, equipped with the Garmin G1000 NXI avionics. Use of Flight Stream, Garmin Satellite Weather and GWX 68 weather radar. Aircraft equipped with Flight Into Known Icing protection. Use of Foreflight to aid flight planning and for Jeppesen Charts.
