Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) | Mats Ek's piece 'Sleeping Beauty’ for the NDT 1 programme 'Sleeping Beauty’. Subscribe now to stay up-to-date with NDT! Made in 1996, originally for the Hamburg Ballet, Sleeping Beauty tells the story of Princess Aurora, who in this masterful rendition by Mats Ek is renamed into a rebellious teenager. She gets infected by the prick of a heroin needle and falls prey to an impending drug dealer who has no intention to save her. Graced by the withholding composition of Tchaikovsky and Eks characteristic dark humor, the audience will take a dive in the many disturbing and specific layers of the human psyche, and the exploration of death, love, jealousy, revenge and happy endings with 29 dancers of NDT. Staged by: Margareta Lidström, Monica Mengarelli, Rafi Sady | Ballet masters: Anders Hellström, Stefan Z˙eromski | Music: Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky | Light: Erik Berglund | Costumes & décor: Peder Freiij.
