Far north Queensland is experiencing its biggest flood since modern record keeping began, as ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper continues to wreak havoc. Flood waters are currently sitting almost 40 per cent higher than the previous record-breaking flood in 1977, according to James Cook University’s Professor Jonathan Nott. Cairns residents are being urged to conserve as much water as possible, with Mayor Terry James warning the area had just hours of treated water supply remaining this morning, due to flood-related blockages.
