US carries out first-ever execution with nitrogen gas

Alabama is now the first US state to execute a death row prisoner with nitrogen gas, after Kenneth Eugene Smith became the first inmate to be put to death using this supposedly painless method. The UN human rights office, however, claims the method could cause severe pain and suffering.
