Six years to the month after he recorded it, Elton coaxed, teased, and muscled his Moscow audience at Rossiya Hall into an enthusiastic response to ‘Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)’. The sheer joy Elton and Ray Cooper felt in being one of the first Western acts to play behind the Iron Curtain is evident throughout this 1979 video – starting with the vamp intro, as the pianist slowly warms up the first verse and the percussionist prowls the stage before attacking his instruments.
