Today we'll be flying onboard a very interesting aircraft, the Dornier 228NG. Aurigny originally bought 4 of these aircraft to replace their ageing fleet of Britten Norman Trislanders, to operate in and out of the tiny Alderney airport. Alderney has a runway of just 800 meters, so a special STOL (Short takeoff and landing) aircraft is needed to fly passengers in, and the Dornier 228 meets those requirements. The aircraft is officially based from Guernsey airport, due to its much larger maintenance facilities, but it operates from Alderney to both Guernsey and Southampton for passenger service.
