Slovak lands of the Austrian Empire, 1834 Donate & Support: The inspirational Pan-Slavic anthem by the Slovak national poet Samuel “Samo“ Tomášik (it was originally called “Hey, Slovaks!“). The song instantly became a symbol of Slavic unity and national revival, since in the middle of the XIX century most Slavic peoples remained dependent on other states (like Austria or the Ottoman Empire). It was also very popular in Russia, the heart of the Pan-Slavic movement, which deservedly claimed leadership in the entire Slavic world.
