This was caused by massive amounts of water draining into the valley. Once in a lifetime experience, I'm told. The people of the valley are calling it a 'Superbloom'. Bad news: The floods washed out Rt. 178. This will add 50 miles to your trip coming from Vegas. I managed to get through, but I have a four wheel drive vehicle. Don't even try it in a car or a two wheel drive pick up. The fines are heavy, and tow charges astronomical.
