The Beatles needed one last song to complete “Please Please Me.“ Two minutes, thirty seconds. Could he make it through one take without losing his voice? The result is the rock equivalent of Michael Jordan hitting a buzzer beater to win a clutch playoff game. This is a stunning, savant-like rock vocal. Pure, unfiltered soul. I've read stories that the EMI staff played this take around the studio for days afterward. It was a marvel. Although they'd been together for years by this point, this is the moment The Beatles arrived. I could write a book about things I love here.
