The 1982 movie “The Thing“ is a remake of the 1951 science fiction film “The Thing from Another World,“ which was itself loosely based on the novella “Who Goes There?“ by John W. Campbell Jr. The novella was first published in the August 1938 issue of the science fiction magazine Astounding Science Fiction. The novella “Who Goes There?“ is considered a classic of the science fiction horror genre. It tells the story of a group of researchers in Antarctica who discover a buried alien spacecraft and the frozen remains of an extraterrestrial being. As the researchers attempt to thaw out the creature, they inadvertently release a malevolent shape-shifting alien that can imitate any living being it comes into contact with.
