A former Green MP in Italy has made a one-man stand against Israel’s war in Gaza, expressing his solidarity with the Palestinian people. Stefano Apuzzo was filmed climbing out of the window of the Chamber of Deputies in Rome, and hanging two Palestinian flags from the balcony railings. He was also heard shouting ‘Stop Italian arms for the genocide in Gaza’ before returning inside. Explaining his protest afterwards, Apuzzo condemned the war between Israel and Hamas, calling for an immediate ceasefire. He also slammed what he saw as Italy’s involvement in the war, citing state-owned defense manufacturers Oto Melara and Leonardo’s arms production for the region. Fellow Green Party member and alliance leader Luana Zanella praised Apuzzo for his actions. ‘While several European countries recognize the state of Palestine and the Italian government remains silent, Apuzzo reminds us that a ceasefire is needed,’ she told reporters.
