Driverless Taxi Set On Fire In San Francisco Authorities are investigating whether anti-autonomous vehicle sentiment is behind the torching of a driverless taxi in San Francisco. According to the San Francisco Police Department, the Waymo vehicle was surrounded, covered in graffiti, and set on fire. Waymo, which is formerly Google’s self-driving car project, is a ride-sharing service that operates in the city. Waymo said in a statement, “The vehicle was not transporting any riders and no injuries have been reported. We are working closely with local safety officials to respond to the situation.“ The incident happened during Lunar New Year celebrations. “It’s totally unacceptable, particularly horrific they did it during Chinatown’s most important day of the year, totally disrespectful,“ San Francisco Supervisor Aaron Peskin said. Although some spectators believe it is possible the destruction was random, there are anti-driverless vehicle groups operating in San Francisco. Источник: RT News
