This is George Green's magnetic ring. Locked up in the tape there are 20 neodymium magnets, all with North at the center. Putting this strip magnets on a magnetic spinning top with the south facing upwards ... incredible, the top begins to turn. This rotational effect is made by the pivoting sphere rotating in a not centered manner, the ring magnets are just a method to sustain the rotor magnet with no contact and move it, all minimal lateral slide make rotating the ball.
