No surprise then that the 15th Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry was also known as ’the Scandinavian Regiment.’ In New York too, Scandinavians rallied around the Union’s banner forming units and regiments to fight. Some Scandinavians fought for the Confederacy too, like adventurers from Sweden and a small community of Texas Norwegians.
