Welcome to my GMLearning series! In this episode of GMLearning, we will have a look at sprite stacking. This is a pseudo 3D effect that makes objects consisting of several layers of sprites, each drawn one pixel apart, appear as if you look at them in a 3D space from a bird's eye perspective. This tutorial is for advanced users, since I will not be holding you hand. Also, you will have to figure out a way to implement thus into your project as I only show you how to draw this. The game shown at the beginning is called 'NIUM' by Downwell creator Moppin. You can see gameplay here and here You should also listen to his talk at Fantastic Arcade here where he talks about the resource impacts of using sprite stacking on a large scale basis (which I wouldn't recommend).
