Russia has allocated around 30% of its 2024 national budget for its military, a record amount for modern times, amid the demands of the Ukraine war. Moscow will also devote nearly 10% more to national security, the Russian military and national security budget for 2024 indicates. The increased Russian spending on defence bears a resemblance to Soviet defence expenditure during the first Cold War. The Russian budget comes as the West is struggling to meet Ukraine’s military demands to fend off the Russian invasion. The situation is especially worse in Washington as Congress failed to pass President Biden’s aid budgets for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
