In the under-rated Desk Set, from 1957, Kate is a research librarian for a major news outlet (I think), and Spence is the inventor of an “electronic brain“ -- ., a computer-- which threatens to put Kate and her crew out of their jobs. The camaraderie among the four research librarians (who include Joan Blondell) is impressive and goes a long way to compensate for the fact that Kate's boss has his own back door to her office. On the other hand, he's younger than she is, and she genuinely likes him. Otherwise, and until Spence comes along, Kate is unapologetically single-- she could be Jane Hudson from Summertime (1955) before her trip to Italy. The posting of this clip was inspired by my friend Pam, who I just learned is also a fan of this movie.
