🇫🇷 𝐋𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐱 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐳𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐢 𝐝'𝐨𝐫. 𝗟’𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘅-𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 The French abbot Charles Batteux (1713-1780) coined the term “Beaux-Arts“ to categorize the arts concerned with the creation of beauty, as opposed to the so-called mechanical arts. This led to the formation of the triad of “fine arts“ (beaux-arts) that was enshrined in the canon: painting, sculpture, and architecture. It's important to remember that architecture is a fine art, not a mechanical one. While beauty may not have saved the world, architecture should contribute to its reconstruction. Immanuel Kant wrote that, to judge art, one requires taste; but, to create art, one requires genius.
