Sakurajima volcano erupts in Japan 3km high ash clouds! 2022128 January 28 2022

Sakurajima volcano in Kyoushu, Japan erupted on January 28th 2022. Ash clouds from the volcano reached a height of over 3km. Volcanic stones were also emitted by the eruption, with the potential to cause damage in a range of 2km. The volume of ash emitted has caused warnings of ash fall in local cities, including Kagoshima. Residents have been advised to wear masks and carry umbrellas when walking or to drive slowly in cars due to this risk. Although no earthquakes have been reported related to this eruption, warning remain in place for further volcanic activity.
