Grunewald Forest, Berlin, Germany. Germans (men and women) chop down trees in wood, saw trees into logs and move them in prams, handcarts, in sacks and on bicycles. L/S tree falling. C/U trees marked with crosses. Good shots of women working together to saw wood into logs and of women pulling carts loaded down with firewood. M/S of elderly woman picking through rubble for something. Men dig up tree stumps from road side. A tree on a Berlin avenue is felled. Women chop up a wooden cable core. Various shots of people beside what I presume are kilns. Coal or wood is loaded into sacks and weighed. A woman gets coal from yard it is weighed and dropped into handcart. Looks as if she pays with some kind of voucher. The coal (?) is shaped into strange oval briquettes. C/U a baby in a pram. Interior German kitchen, a young housewife puts a piece of wood in kitchen range. C/U. taps of gas stove. High angle shot of Berlin street, camera pans to show woman taking wood off pile on her balcony.
