This test will prove the spacecraft’s abort system can safely lift Boeing Astronaut Chris Ferguson and the NASA Commercial Crew astronauts away from a rocket in case of emergency. Starliner’s four Launch Abort Engines and several Orbital Maneuvering and Attitude Control thrusters will fire and push the spacecraft approximately 1 mile (4,500 feet/1.6 km) above land and 1 mile (7,000 feet/1.6 km) north of the test stand at Launch Complex 32 on White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.
