The National Christmas Tree, located in front of the White House, fell down on Tuesday afternoon due to heavy winter winds. The 40-foot Norway spruce, sourced from West Virginia's Monongahela National Forest, had been recently planted on the White House Ellipse, also known as President's Park. It toppled over around 1 p.m. amid wind gusts reaching up to 46 mph. However, by 6 p.m., the National Park Service (NPS) had restored the tree to its upright position after replacing a snapped cable. This tree, chosen for this year's White House holiday tradition, replaces an older tree that suffered from a fungal disease. Despite the incident, the lighting ceremony for the tree, involving a countdown and musical performances, was scheduled for Thursday, with no immediate indication of a delay due to the fall. Meanwhile, the Christmas tree outside the U.S. Capitol building was successfully lit on Tuesday.
