In July of 1938 32 countries and 24 NGOs attended the Évian Conference, convened by Franklin D. Roosevelt to solve the pressing problem of Jewish refugees. Over the course of the nine-day conference, they learned about the thousands upon thousands of Jews trying to flee. Every single country expressed sympathy for the Jews, but few offered to actually help. Beyond names and numbers, Faces of the Holocaust provides a groundbreaking approach that adds a human context to the quintessential crime against humanity. Rather than telling stories about the people and how the Holocaust affected them, the series tells the stories of the human mosaic that defined, enabled, defied and resisted the Holocaust.
