On September 18, 1793, President George Washington and area Freemasons laid the cornerstone of the U.S. Capitol building during a ceremony that included corn, oil and wine. Congressional members, the Architect of the Capitol, and Masonic leaders recently marked the 225th anniversary in the Capitol's Statuary Hall with a re-enactment of the ceremony.
