Inspired by the old “Man With a Movie Camera“ (1929) film, I took a series of pictures of people and vehicles on the streets of Brighton, looking at their interactions with each other. I was interested on how the mood has changed over those 80 years of progress and how the street movements and events can capture it in a stop motion video. The idea of making it 6 frames per second emerged as the music has the rhythm of 3/4 (waltz) and one measure playse in 2 seconds so there would be a sense of tact in the whole chaotic and fast image changiing and melodic slow waltz music. The pace of the video and the fast changing photographs are reflecting the pace of the modern life. People use to move as fast as possible from A to B, not noticing many things around and not concentrating on anything for a long time. When you smoke you repeat the same action of breathing and hand movement in your tempo, as well as you walk on the street and keep the tempo of the crowd. Tempo is in repetition. There are so many rhythms that interact with each other but have their own uniqueness and does never happen the same twice. Such things as smoking, dancing or just walking to different place is the rhythm of people’s lives; though video montage looks chaotic and the pictures are not taking at the same speed, my visual approach makes the same intention as the idea. There is a chance to see waltz in the chaos, harmonic and versatile in it’s own way. music: Jon Brion - Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind OST - Theme
