(Part 2/3) Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Gennady Gatilov’s interview with the Pax Press Agency: Christian Peschken: The Head of the Russian Orthodox Church has referred to the conflict in Ukraine as a “holy war”. Do you view it as a religious conflict? Ambassador Gatilov: I would not call the Ukrainian crisis a “holy war”, as it is a much more multifaceted conflict driven by a great number of factors. ️ I believe that Patriarch Kirill’s use of the term “holy war“ is overall symbolic, as he is seriously concerned over the grave violations of the rights of Orthodox believers in Ukraine.
