Группа “Рок-ателье“ - Свежий ветер'1983 Gruppa “Rok-Ateile“ - Svezhii Veter'1983 Group “Rock-Studio“ - Fresh Breeze'1983 This is a general mix of Rok-Ateile's earlier songs remastered, and has little relation to the tape album under the same name. Rock-Ateile (one the many variations you can spell this band's name, you'll notice I spell it wrong) was a group led by Kris Kelmi, who was one of the forefronts of soviet pop music at that time. Set up in the Lenkom Theater of Moscow, Kelmi had left Autograph (another very popular russian band, famous for their prog albums and performing on Live Aid) in 1980 and had accepted an offer from Mark Zakharov the theater director to get a group together to participate in the performances held there. Gruppa Araks (another group I'll upload in the future) had worked in the Lenkom before Kelmi, but in the spring of that very year had got up and left. The new group to take its place, “Rock-Studio“, included Kris Kelmi (keyboards, vocals), Pavel Smeyan (flute, vocals) and Alexander Smeyan (bass, vocals). In September of 1980 they made their debut and had released a single on Melodiya called “Open The Window“ with songs written by Alexander. Unfortunately that same year, Alexander Smeyan died and was replaced with Kamil Chalaev. Since then the group remained relatively unchanged, although Alexander Sado who played flute in this album would drop in and out to help with vocals. In 1984 Kris Kelmi aimed the group towards a more pop-driven sound, hoping to tour the west, rather than the yacht-rock the other group members were used to, many of whom left the band because of this. Their later albums however arguably became more successful and even earned Kris Kelmi a spot on Moscow Television. At this point Rock-Ateile just became a general term for “Kris Kelmi and whoever's playing with him this time“. The name itself eventually fizzled away. A lot of very chill and mellow influences in this, with hints of a Wurlitzer electric piano (which was incredibly rare in the soviet union) floating about. Very nice stuff to relax to! Band Members were: Kris Kelmi - Vocals/Synthesizers Yuri Titov - Drums Kamil Chalaev - Contrabass/Bass/Organs Sergey Berezkin - Guitar Boris Oppenheim - Organs/Piano Alexander Sado - Vocals Pavel Smeyan - Vocals/Flute Fun fact: Kris Kelmi's real name was Anatoli, but he had decided to change it to make it snappier, from “Kris“ from Kris Kelvin, the protagonist of Stanislaw Lem's Solaris.
