Hi guys! Today we’re at Disneyland in New Orleans Square, which is famous for their Monte Cristo Sandwich! The Disneyland Monte Cristo Sandwich recipe was created in 1966 at the Blue Bayou Restaurant, but its origins go back to about 1910 in Paris, when it was first served in their cafes. The first true Monte Cristo sandwich, called the croque monsieur, was made with white bread, ham and gruyere cheese - then fried in clarified butter to a golden brown and served with salad or french onion soup in the bistros. If a fried egg was added to the top, it was called a Croque Madame. These delicious sandwiches are still served in Parisian cafes. The Disney Monte Cristo sandwich went a step further - in true American style - by placing the sandwich in a rich pancake batter - deep frying it with sliced ham, turkey and Swiss cheese - and then topping with a generous coating of fresh raspberry or blackberry jam. At Disneyland in California, the Cafe Orleans Monte Cristo Sandwich is also available
