delegation from ECOWAS came to Niger to bring peace before the military intervention in Niger. The delegation arrived in the capital in the afternoon, led by former Nigerian President Abdulsalami Abubakar. Among the delegates is Omar Turey, chairman of the bloc’s commission, who was met at Niamey airport by junta-appointed Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zein and was to negotiate. Zein has already said that ousted President Bazum will not be harmed. There are rumors that the junta even allowed Bazum to participate in negotiations with ECOWAS.
