Howdy. Today you’re in for a treat. We will be taking a definitive look at the oldest known photographs of a cornucopia of various dirigibles, airships, and zeppelins, including experimental designs, from the late 19th, and early 20th century. Accompanying these visuals, for those of you so inclined to listen, will be a discussion of the Mysterious Airship of 1896 and 1897, which single handedly sparked a craze, some would say a panic, in America. Sightings of this Mystery Dirigible came with outstanding claims that the vessel was nearly silent, could travel faster than any train, and, apparently, could turn at any angle mid-flight. Furthermore, it wasn’t like this Mystery Airship just appeared in one or two accounts. We have hundreds of sightings documented, accounting for thousands of people who seemingly saw the exact same flying vessel. What’s more, all these sightings occurred in less than a year, from late 1896 to mid 1897. Then in May 1897 the sightings and reports of the Mysterious Dirigible ended completely. Was this craft overtaken by the United States government? Was this flying machine left over from an ancient reset? Was this antiquitech? Or was it all an elaborate hoax, as it is widely claimed today? Let us take the deepest of dives into this narrative, reading, and quoting, newspaper articles and resources from 1896 and 1897 respectively. I’ll provide links down below for you to further grab hold of this material. I truly appreciate your time spent with me here on the channel, and I’d love to hear your opinion about the Mystery Airship of 1896, or dirigible flight in general, in the comment section down below.
