A 67-year-old alleged pedophile turned up at a hotel room in search of two young girls. Instead, he found three police officers and a fatal hail of bullets. The Seattle Police Department (SPD) released the intense bodycam footage of the incident, showing the gruesome sting operation gone awry and its inevitable conclusion. The suspect had arrived at the DoubleTree Suites hotel in Tukwila under the impression that he was meeting two young girls, ages 7 and 11. He was in fact caught in an elaborate sting operation by undercover officers from the Washington State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. When the suspect saw police opening the door he immediately pulled out a gun. A brief scuffle ensued, and the suspect’s gun discharged, grazing one of the officer’s legs. Police responded with gunfire of their own, emptying at least a dozen rounds into the suspect, killing him almost instantly. The SPD has defended the actions of the officers, with Seattle Chief of Police Adrian Diaz stating that ‘for our officers, these situations are dangerous, unpredictable, and can escalate rapidly.’
