What can architecture tell us about? When we visit other countries, other cities, we follow the proverb “ what shows up on the surface that counts“, so we evaluate the level of social development and the level of comfort based on architecture and infrastructure. Architecture provides insight into culture and civilization. It’s the same with ancient societies, by architecture archaeologists can assess the development processes of ancient peoples, the level of their economy and social structure peculiarities. Many years of archaeological research in the North of Western Siberia allowed us to conclude that all the ancient buildings and defensive parts were wood-and-earth structures. Their remains are not much informative. After a couple of centuries, nothing remains of architecture except the pits. The fortress of Kayukovo 2 was burned down 8 thousand years ago, but the remains of burned structures made it possible to extract valuable information that made it possible to make drawings and build the first small-sized dwelling with the help of ancient tools. But the questions still remained. How will the process of reconstruction of a full-size building differ from the small one, were our engineering solutions correct? will we be able to solve previously unsolved engineering problems? A new experiment was required. In the summer of 2022, the Stone Age fortress began to be recreated in the Salym village. On the shore of the Syrkovy Sor lake, there was a sound of Stone axes chopping like it happened once already about eight thousand years ago. It is a silent dialogue between the ancient architects and modern scientists and builders which helps to intuitively recreate lost details of a Stone Age dwelling that was not recorded during excavations.
