When Fred Leonard (Lee Bowman) sends his fiancée, Lila (Ida Lupino), to meet his disapproving mother, Hattie (Fay Bainter), the timing couldn't be worse. Hattie has just discovered that her local laundry is being squeezed by the mob and, tough cookie that she is, decides to combat them by forming a mob of her own with the help of a reformed crook (Warren Hymer).
