Colonel de Basil toured Ballet Russe companies to Australia three times -- the Ballets Russes de Monte-Carlo (1936--1937), the Covent Garden Russian Ballet (1938--1939) and the Original Ballet Russe (1939--1940). During these tours, much amateur footage was shot of the ballets presented and of the dancers off stage. In fact it has been said that the greatest collection of post-Diaghilev Ballets Russes film in existence is in Australia.
