Niøbe is a generative sound machine driven by water droplets. It's inspired by mythological figure daughter of Tantalus and of either Dione, she was turned into stone and, as she wept unceasingly, waters started to pour from her petrified complexion. The device consist of a hydraulic system which generates randomly 5 different sequence of droplets that are falling down on as many electronic sensors which transduce them in electric trigger signals. The 5 trigger impulses are connected to my eurorack modular system that control on a bunch of variable parameters like a random sequence of notes, wave shaping, filter, envelopes, reverb etc... The results is a generative unpredictable and polyrhythmic melodies which can go on endlessly. This video is the first experimentation, a sort of start-up for further upcoming variations of newborn Niøbe. Enjoy! Giuseppe Acito (opificio sonico) info@
