Karim Benzema turned it on in a big match once again as Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid side drew 1-1 with Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League 2020/21 semi-finals at the Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium. Having seen off another Premier League outfit, Liverpool, in the previous round, Real Madrid were paired with Chelsea. USA forward Christian Pulisic put Tuchel's side in the 15th minute but Benzema levelled the score shortly before the half-hour mark with a brilliant volley from inside the box. Benzema, whose goal was his 28th of a prolific campaign, also equalled Real Madrid club legend Raúl Gonzalez's tally of 71 European Cup goals. Benzema now only trails Cristiano Ronaldo (135 goals), Lionel Messi (120 goals) and Robert Lewandowski (73 goals) in the European Cup all-time top scorers' list. In addition, Zidane's side extended their unbeaten run to 18 games, while Real Madrid also became the first team to dispute their 450th European Cup match.
