Up to 100,000 people marched in London on Saturday in support of Palestinians, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Protesters gathered in the rain at Marble Arch near London’s Hyde Park before marching to Whitehall. Waving Palestinian flags, participants called for an end to Israel’s blockade and airstrikes launched in the wake of Hamas’ brutal incursion two weeks ago. Two posters held aloft featured a Hitler moustache painted onto photographs of both Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, and Rishi Sunak, the UK prime minister. The caption underneath read “Crime Minister”. British authorities have urged demonstrators to be mindful of the pain and anxiety felt by the Jewish community. London’s Metropolitan Police force says it has seen a 13-fold upsurge in reports of antisemitic offences in October compared to last year. Reports of anti-Muslim crimes have more than doubled.
