“Purple Pills“ (known censored as “Purple Hills“) is a hip hop single by D12 from their 2001 debut album Devil's Night. It achieved notable success, reaching #2 on the UK Singles Chart and #19 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. The song contains many references to drug use, with “purple pills,“ “golden seals,“ and “Mushroom Mountain“ being examples of recreational drug use. The song was deemed inappropriate for play on many radio stations, and a radio edit was made removing most drug and sex references. The edit was called “Purple Hills“, and lines such as “I've been to mushroom mountain“ were altered to things such as “I've climbed the highest mountain,“ and “I take a couple uppers“ was changed to “I've been so many places.“ The edit was the most-played version on Top 40 radio, but a number of underground radio stations played the unedited single
